Hot in the city

Thank god for AC. That's all I have to say. I don't do well in humidity. I am not sure how I spent the last 8 summers working outside all day long. I used to get really tan but I would also be really really hot. At least down by the ocean there is a breeze. There is nothing worse than still humid air in the city. This picture kind of looks like I feel when it is hot. I want to just stay still and not move and drink gallons of iced tea and water. Allegedly a thunderstorm approaches. Allegedly it will be in the 70s tomorrow. Allegedly. We'll see Boston Meteorologists, we'll see.

Flip Flops

Growing up my mom called them thongs. She still does, I am pretty sure. I just want to say what a great invention. They are so perfect for summer. It actually feels weird for me to wear sneakers these days after so many in flip flops. As an athletic trainer, I have to say, they are not the best shoe for you to wear, biomechanically speaking. There is no arch support. I just have to throw that disclaimer out there. I looked up the derivation of the Thong and apparently it first originated in Japan. Makes sense. They had to take off shoes upon entering the house and slip into something more comfortable. There are many different names for these wonderful shoes around the world. Apparently here in the US we also call them Zorries? What? Who does? My favorite is New Zealand they are Jandals. Apparently in the US Navy they are known as "Go-slowers" because running shoes are known as "go fasters". Ha ha.
In Slovakia they are called Zabky's translated means frogs. That is great. I think I am going to take to calling them Jandals just to confuse everyone. I am in need of a new pair of Jandals. Any recommendations? My reefs have lasted for over a year.

My doctor made a funny

So last week I had an endoscopy. They take a little camera and look down inside my stomach. I was convinced they would find a small animal crawling around in there. However, they did not. they found that my stomach lining is inflamed and irritated (i could have told you that) but they can't tell why. So I just have to live with it. Doc called today to tell me my biopsy was fine. So I say, well what do I do? He says, "Pray". Ha ha. He did follow that advice with medication and other helpful tips. Ah, I do enjoy a doctor with a sense of humor. I think the animal in my belly was hiding when he was looking around in there, but who knows. Sorry if this is too much information for anybody. I thought it was pretty funny.

Update on the Turtle

Sidenote, The air in my office is broken. I kid you not, my ice cold diet pepsi was warm in a matter of minutes. I feel like I am in a sauna. There are no windows and there is no movement of air. It is hot and humid and gross!! I do want to give an update on Frank, our turtle. He is doing better. He is still floating lopsided and seems to be a bit weak, but he finally ate his food like he used to yesterday. He attacks it like it is alive and going to get away. His eyes are opening on his own and he his swimming again. I think he is recovering from his infection. Paul and I have diligently cleaned his tank and soaked him in sulfur as well as provided him with fresh food and a warm light over the past couple weeks. I think he has taken a turn for the better. Yay, Frank. Maybe Paul and I are capable of caring for something outside of ourselves!!

Cheers to Erica

I was introduced to Erica a few years back through Angela. We were at a small dark bar in Cambridge imbibing in some bevvy's. Immediately I found her to be one of the most interesting and intelligent people I have met. Throughout the past few years, I have been lucky to have enjoyed some nights out and some nights in (dance party NYE 2005) with her. I seek out people in life that are genuine; people who you can trust, people who wouldn't throw you under the bus or leave you out in the cold, people who are honest and no matter how often you see them it is like you never left when you see them again. Erica is one of those people. She is an all around genuine and solid person. I like solid. I achieve to be a genuine/solid person. Erica has ambition and drive and intelligence. She is moving to London today. What a great experience. I know she'll be successful over there. I know because she is such a great, ambitious person and I can't wait to go visit. I will live my life vicariously through her as I have never lived outside the New England area. Cheers Erica!!

It's easy to be Blue....

A lobster was spared his life in CT because he was blue. How cool is that? 1 in 3 million lobsters are blue. Dem's some crazy odds. He gets to grow old in a classroom at the Mysic Aquarium & Institute in Connecticut. Wonder what they will name him. I am thinking, Smurf. However, that is pretty unoriginal. How about Papa Smurf? Apparently, he too would turn red if cooked. It may not be easy to be green, but you get to live a pampered life if you are blue. Sorry Kermit!

Hooray Sarah!!

After my timely arrival home just after 5am from Philadelphia on sunday morning. I got about 3 hours sleep and then drove up to NH to celebrate the beginning of Sarah's wedding. Her mother and sister put together a lovely shower at the Concord Country club on a beautiful sunny day. The food was so tasty, as you could expect when one of the hosts is an executive chef. The decorations were perfect. Emotions were high as the bride shed a few tears, happy tears of course. Kate provided the "naughty" gifts and the rest of us were mostly practical as the bride likes to be. Sarah looked radiant and glowing in white with a pink flower in her hair. I can only imagine what she'll look like on her wedding day. The groom showed up in time to take away all the gifts. They are such a great couple. Cheers to Chris and Sarah. On to the Bacherlorette party!

Cheers to Jeffrey and Angela

Just over a year ago, I brought my lovely friend Angela to a few functions with Paul and his friends. Mr. Santos quickly had an eye for her. He repetitively questioned me about "how does a guy like me get a girl like that". I told him to just be himself. I am not a big fan of "setting people up" but I do like to put it in one's head that someone might be interested and if it's meant to be it's meant to be. Well, I guess it was meant to be. Mr. Jeffrey "Cortez" Santos proposed to Ms. Angela Malone Saturday morning. I have known Angela since I was 17 years old and all I ever wanted was for her to be happy in life and love. So here's to Jeff and Ang. Finally Angela, The summer of Ang. Cheers!

Glad this wasn't me

I saw this article in the Globe. Imagine being upside down for 30 minutes. Good thing those harnesses work!! My god, imagine what kind of headache these people had? Think twice about riding on one of these things!!http://www.boston.com/news/odd/articles/2007/06/10/blackout_suspends_riders_upside_down/

115 days

That's right 115 days til I leave my twenties and become 30. I don't know why I am thinking about this today but I found a website that actual countsdown to the exact second to what ever date you want. So I picked my 30th birthday. Hmmm. Time to reflect on a decade gone by. What have I done? What have I accomplished? What are my goals for the next decade? I do love my birthday though and can't wait to celebrate the my entry into the newest decade.

Showered with Love

Big weekend ahead. We begin the celebration of Ms. Sarah Fisher and Mr. Christopher Ciano wedding on sunday. I am sure that Sarah's shower will be lovely as everything she does is always fantastic. I am really looking forward to it and I am glad it is actually on a day I am not working!! Yay. Today, I am off to Philly at noon. The bus company screwed up our bus and it isn't the regular coach bus we take. Ugh. I plan on curling up on the seat and just sleeping the whole 5 hours. Wish us luck as we avenge our loss earlier in the season to Philly. At least I Have sunday to look forward to. Cheers to Chris and Sarah!!

Pray for Frank

Frank the turtle has seemingly come down with some sort of respiratory infection. He has puffy eyes, labored breathing and is floating lopsided in the water. This picture is not of him but it is very close to what he is looking like. Honestly, we were surprised he made it through the night. We have been vigilent about cleaning his tank and keeping him fed. I might go buy a heater for him today. Let's just hope he makes it til tonight. So sad. Say a little prayer for Fenway "Frank" McNeil.

I need Closure

After eating fantastic true Italian homemade lasagna, courtesy of my roommate's BF's mother, Paul and I settle in to watch Children of Men, starring Clive Owen. It is a dark and somewhat depressing movie. It has some holocaust-esque elements as well as some christ like references. It is about what the world will be like if fertility became rampant and no more children were being born. Anyway, it was a good movie but the ending gets me. It ends with no resolution. Paul enjoys that. He likes when a movie is open for interpretation. Not me. I want an ending that tells me what happens (or happened as the case may be). It was a good movie, a little heavy, a little dark but I still want to know what happens. Maybe they left it open for interpretation but part of me thinks they left it open for a sequel. Ah, who knows. If anyone has seen this movie and thinks they know how it ends, let me know.

Once

Traveled on the red line from Broadway to Harvard in order to see "Once". A short independant film set in Ireland about two artists (singers) who seemingly fall in love but are not quite meant for each other. It was a great story with great, mostly original music. I recommend everyone hop on over to Harvard square or Coolidge corner to see this little movie. I am not a great movie reviewer but I liked it so I think others would too. And, it is short and satisfied my fidgety/short attention spanned self. My counterpart who is a true movie connosieur really enjoyed it. I would take his recommendation over mine but since we both enjoyed it, you will too. It has depth and honesty and great music. http://oncethemovie.com The music is from "The Frames" and Irish band. Listen to some samples http://www.myspace.com/theframesofficial. good stuff.
