Happy Birthday D-Ped!!

Yesterday I had the opportunity to leave work a little early and jet on over to Fenway to catch the Red Sox playing the los angeles angels of anaheim (I like to still call them the California Angels). Rookie phenom Clay Buchholz got his first start for the big club. After throwing about 5 straight balls, he settled in and started to throw some stuff. Of course, the 6 run first inning support he got from the boys also helped. Big Papi homered to right and it was little Dustin Pedroia's birthday. And I say little because Big Papi put his arm around him after a great play and it looked like Papi was chillin with the ball boy, not his shortstop. D-Ped homered in the 8th only to cross the plate to "they say it's your birthday". Celebrations abound. At one point during the game there was commotion behind us, and I say behind us because we were 8 rows from the on deck circle. We stood on our seats like everyone else to see what it was. Well, Alecia, a little too eager tried to get higher up. She slipped, grabbed me and we both tumbled off the seats. I slammed my leg off the seat in front of me. Her ankle got all jammed up in the seat we were standing on. Two old men caught us. Oops. The commotion was not a celebrity (which is what we thought). Rather, a mouse had fallen from the rafters and was running around people's feet. Ew gross. I wonder how much he paid to get his seat.

And it begins

My life as an athletic trainer all comes to a front mid august every year. Preseason starts. Physicals, two a days, three a days, hours of people complaining. It is basically the two weeks a year I regret choosing this profession. However, I have to remember to push through and think about the summer I had off and the days of being paid to watch sports which are to come.

Mr. and Mrs. Christopher Ciano

This past friday night, I had the pleasure of witnessing the marriage of Chris Ciano to the former Sarah Fisher. A year or so of planning and organizing had finally come down to this friday night. It was a perfect wedding. Sarah looked gorgeous, as I knew she would, Chris looked happy, grinning from ear to ear and very handsome in his tux. The reception was perfect. Sarah remembered to do every detail. It seemed nothing was a miss. We had a really really good time. And Paul even danced!!! Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Ciano!!!

Cheers to Sarah!

Last weekend I had the pleasure of toasting Ms. Fisher on one of her last nights out before becoming a married lady. A relaxing day at the spa was followed by a raucous night on the town, hummer limo and all (thanks Chris!). There was music, there was drinks, there was dancing and above all there was laughter. What a great way to send her off!! One week til the wedding! Can't wait.

Is it bird? Is it a plane? Is it a cow?

We took a long walk home after dinner last night. As we were walking near the Charles, it was dark out and Paul says, "what is that over there in the field.....is it a cow? It moved." And I look at the nice open park along the river and realize he sees a park bench, standing still. It is not a cow nor a bird. I cracked up. I think Paul needs to really go get a new pair of glasses.

OLS

Many of you don't know that I am a superhero. These are my superhero friends. Last year, walking down the street near my house an old lady trip and fell off the curb on the sidewalk. I leapt over and actually caught her before she fell into the street saving her from a bad fall and from getting hit by a car. Again, yesterday, driving to city hall, an old lady trip on the street and unable to brace herself hit her face on the curb. Unfortunately, I was in my car and unable to "catch her" before she fell. But I had my med kit and got out and helped her. She had a laceration on her forehead and an obviously broken nose. Poor lady was getting chocolate nips (the candy, not the booze) from CVS. We waited for the ambulance to come, me, Paul and another good samaritan. I have decided that I should get a hip pack (like the one I wear on the sidelines) except I will wear it around town with the enscription "OLS", that's Old Lady Saver. It will be my old lady saver pack. And I will be a hero to all old lady's that cross the street. on a side note, 3-4 people stopped to help this woman. And my car and the BTD truck were blocking some people in at their meters....and these people, were yelling and complaining that they had to wait 5 minutes with their car blocked in. They were not kind about it. I guess 1 in 5 people just have no heart.

you don't need to be right to predict the weather

Sunny and 88. That's what the 11o'clock news said the weather would be today. Well, I put on shorts and a tshirt and headed off to Harvard for football camp. I noticed the overcast looking sky and a chill in the air so I grabbed my Goretex jacket, just in case. (Every athletic trainer carries a raincoat wherever they go). And then, the skies opened up. I know I am not the only one who saw the weather report. Not one coach, not one parent watching had a raincoat on. Why would you. Picture perfect weather today, right Dickie Albert? As they say, you don't like the weather in new england? Wait a minute.
